The Post-Byzantine Church of Holy Cross of Doliana

The church of Holy Cross of Doliana, with its 12 domes, consists one of the most impressive post-Byzantine churches in Greece. It was built in the 18th century on a three-aisled basilica.

At first it was operated as a monastery but was abandoned in 1924. In the outside of the church one can admire relief presentations, which is a feature of other churches in the area. The monastery is of rare architectural art and is considered a preserved monument by the Ministry of Culture. The impressive church is built on the top of a hill of almost 1.000 meters height and is surrounding by a dense fit forest of huge fir trees, in a majestic scenery.
